Elementary Art ~ Jr. High STEAM ~ HS STEAM, Computer Apps

Elementary Art

The elementary students, 3-6, are learning about texture and how texture is all around us, inside and outside. Currently they are creating a “Texture Library” made up of rubbings from collected items. Soon we will be exploring the various ways to incorporate different textures into everything from still life drawings to sculpture work. Although textures are all around us it is a bit tricky to represent them in artwork and produce excellent results. It should be a lot of fun seeing what these creative youngsters come up with!

Jr. High Advisory and STEAM

Advisoryis ever evolving – our days are filled with exploration, both self-awareness, personal interests, and the world of interpersonal communication.

Jr. High STEAMStudents just finished up a pattern project – Steampunk Airships and are now moving on to Laser based projects. They will learn how to create their own designs using PowerPoint and turn them into a format recognizable by the laser’s programming language. This will be the first of a group of projects designed to be given as gifts.

High School STEAM & Computer Apps

Computer Apps– this group is learning the basics of the Microsoft office software. This includes: PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. At present we are concentrating on PowerPoint since it is the most conducive to learning the tool ribbon while having fun and being creative.

TheJunk Reimaginedclass is busy building creating objects from junk items. Our first endeavor were “Pod Racers” – based on the Star Wars movie series. They were made from found objects and had size requirements. They turned out surprisingly well. The imagination of the students in class is outstanding. We moved on to “Wind Chimes” and are learning some painting techniques as well. More small projects will be forthcoming prepping students for their big second quarter, self-designed, project.

Design and Constructionclass is currently giving presentation on various alternative building technologies and techniques. Once the students have decided on a couple of methods they want to try some pretty extensive planning, including drawings, and modeling will be in order. The have big ideas about what they feel can be accomplished in the next few weeks during the “construction” phase of these projects. This is going to be challenging and fun!
